Pilgud Agent vs Meta Ads Manager: which one should run your ads?
Meta Ads Manager is free and does everything, if you have the time. Pilgud Agent does the work in the same account and asks before it spends. How to choose.
The short answer
Meta Ads Manager is Meta's own free tool, and everything a Facebook or Instagram ad can do starts there – but you plan, write, design, build and watch every ad yourself. Pilgud Agent works inside that same Meta ad account and does those steps for you, and nothing goes live or spends money until you approve it. If you enjoy the craft and have the hours, Ads Manager alone is enough; if ads keep slipping down your list, the agent is the cheaper hour.
This is not a choice between two places your ads can live. Pilgud Agent builds its campaigns in your own Meta ad account – the same one you would open in Ads Manager. What changes is who does the work, and how much of your time it takes.
This page compares Pilgud Agent, our software. Pilgud is also an agency with people in it; if you want a person to run your marketing, that is Pilgud Services, and it is a different comparison.

What Ads Manager is good at
It is complete. Every targeting option, placement, bidding setting and report Meta offers is in Ads Manager first, and it costs nothing to use. If you know what a campaign, an ad set and an ad are, you have a design tool and an evening, you can do everything yourself.
It also shows you everything. There is no layer between you and your account.
Where small businesses get stuck
Not on the buttons – on everything around them:
- Deciding what to say. Which offer, which angle, which season. A blank ad is the hardest part.
- Making the picture. A good ad needs a photo that fits and words that read in a second, in the right shape for the feed, Stories and Reels.
- Setting it up without mistakes. Objective, audience, budget, the pixel, the page – a wrong choice costs money quietly.
- Coming back to it. Ads need watching. The week gets busy, and the campaign runs on unchanged.
What Pilgud Agent does instead
- Learns your business from your website and a short conversation: what you sell, for whom, what a customer is worth to you.
- Makes the ads – the words and the picture, from your own photos where they fit, and labels anything AI-made as an illustration, never as your real work. It can turn an approved ad into a Reel.
- Builds the campaign in your Meta account and leaves it paused. Nothing goes live until you click.
- Asks before it spends. Every launch and budget change waits for your approval, and a monthly cap stops it going over.
- Reviews the numbers and tells you in plain words what it would stop, keep or try next – and why.
You stay the owner of the account, the ads and the data. If you stop using the agent, everything it built is still in your Meta account.
A real number
The only result we quote is our own: Aknaässad, the window-cleaning business we run and test everything on first, spent €49.92 on Meta ads in high season and got 22 enquiries – about €2.27 each – and about €2,380 in sales. That is one business in one season, not a promise; our ad cost calculator lets you run your own numbers.
Which one fits you
Ads Manager on its own is the better choice if:
- you already run ads confidently and like doing it,
- you need options for large or unusual accounts,
- your time costs less than a plan.
Pilgud Agent fits better if:
- you know ads would help, but they keep slipping down the list,
- you have no designer and no copywriter,
- you want to approve decisions, not make every one of them,
- you want someone to look at the numbers every week without paying a person to do it.
And if you want people rather than software – strategy, media buying and creative from a team – that is what Pilgud Services is for.
FAQ
Does Pilgud Agent replace Meta Ads Manager?
No. It works through your Meta ad account, so everything it builds appears in Ads Manager too. You can open it there at any time, change it or switch it off.
Is Meta ad spend included in the price?
No. You pay Meta directly for the ads, on your own account. Pilgud never marks up ad spend.
Can the agent spend money on its own?
Not unless you allow it. Every launch and budget change waits for your approval, and a monthly cap stops it going over.
What if I already have campaigns running?
They keep running. The agent reads your results so it knows what has worked; what it builds new goes in alongside, paused until you approve it.
